Thanks to innovations in CO2 laser technology, a new technique is available to Oculoplastic Surgeons dealing with cosmetic improvements to the eyelids and facial skin.
Wrinkles can virtually be "painted-away", with a wand-like laser device, and replaced by smooth rejuvenated youthful skin. The new
generation CO2 laser delivers short bursts of high laser energy, allowing the surgeon precise control over its depth of penetration. As a result, skin can be removed one layer at a time, revealing fresh skin underneath. Among the many advantages of this treatment are lower risks of scarring and improved safety. CO2 laser skin resurfacing is also more effective for treating deeper facial wrinkles and severe sun damage.
Laser Skin Resurfacing can:
- Smooth and "tighten" eyelid skin
- Reduce "crow's feet" wrinkles around the eyes
- Erase fine lines and wrinkles on the face (especially on the upper lip, cheeks and forehead)
- Soften "pucker" marks and frown lines
- Repair "smoker's lines" and "lipstick bleed"
- Flatten and improve the appearance of scars
- Remove brown spots or "blotchy", uneven skin colour
CO2 laser skin resurfacing is relatively "bloodless" surgery, offering minimal discomfort and quick healing. The technology provides alternatives for blepharoplasty,
because laser incisions can result in less swelling and more rapid recovery. Skin resurfacing is often performed in combination with other cosmetic procedures, depending on the patient's needs.
It is safe, reliable, effective and, in most cases, same day outpatient surgery.
Your choice of surgeon is very important when considering laser skin resurfacing, as results are technique sensitive.
Be sure to select a doctor with demonstrated laser experience. Dr. James H.
Oestreicher, M.D., F.R.C.S. (C) is a research leader in this field, and he has educated visiting surgeons from all over Canada and the rest of the world in new CO2 laser techniques.
