The eyes are one of the most attractive features of a person’s face, particularly when we are young. As we age, we are prone to developing a sagging forehead as well as sagging of the upper lid skin.In rejuvenating the upper face,
In rejuvenating the upper face, a question that comes up often is should I get lid lift or a brow lift ?
A lid lift, know medically as an upper blepharoplasty (pronounced BLEF-A-RO-PLASTEE) is a procedure that rejuvenates the upper face by removing excess skin and occasionally fat from the upper lid to reshape the lid, creating a more youthful appearance. Good candidates for upper blepharoplasty are patients who have excess skin in their upper eyelids that may be pushing their lid crease down, or worse, skin that is overlapping their eyelashes. Sometimes upper blepharoplasty is combined with a lower lid blepharoplasty if there is puffiness or “eye bags” in the lower eyelids.
A brow lift is a procedure that rejuvenates the upper face by addressing the heaviness of the brows. The eyebrow normally sits just above the bony rim of the eye socket. In men, it has flat shape, but in women the brow arches upwards laterally as it gets closer to the temples. If the lateral brow falls and sits lower than the central brow, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift. Also, if the overhang or hooding of the upper lid skin extends beyond the outer corner of your eyes, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift.
There are many approaches to performing a brow lift. Some require surgery while other approaches are non-surgical. During your consultation, Dr. Maleki will explain the different approaches for a brow lifting, as the well as the benefits and drawbacks of each approach. Finally, he will give you his expert opinion as to which approach best suits your face and your goals.
Finally, blepharoplasty and brow lifting are not mutually exclusive. Often, patients who require a brow lift also require a blepharoplasty, but the opposite may not be true. Again, a consultation with Dr. Maleki, an expert in eyelid and facial rejuvenation will help you determine if you need a lid lift, a brow lift or both.
