History of Toronto Eyelid Surgery

Toronto Eyelid surgery was founded in 1991 by Dr. James Oestreicher a prominent Canadian ophthalmologist and ophthalmic plastic surgeon and a professor at the University of Toronto. Over the course of his career, Dr. Oestreicher developed an incredibly successful practice that put Toronto Eyelid Surgery on the map as the most sought out clinic in Canada for eyelid surgery and facial rejuvenation in addition to revisional eyelid surgery. In 2018, after a long and successful career, Dr. Oestreicher retired from clinical practice.

Dr. Babak Maleki, met and trained with Dr. Oestreicher as an ophthalmology resident back in 2003. Inspired by Dr. Oestreicher’s line of work, he then went on to complete his fellowship training in ophthalmic plastic surgery in Montreal. In 2016, Dr. Maleki joined Dr. Oestreicher and shortly after was appointed Medical Director at Toronto Eyelid Surgery.

Over the past decade, Dr. Maleki has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s top cosmetic eyelid surgeons. He has been perfecting his own craft by performing over 10,000 eyelid procedures in addition to using leading industry technology in non-invasive aesthetic laser and skin care therapies. Highly respected by his peers, he was recruited to Dalhousie University to become chief of the oculoplastic services. He also served as president of the Canadian Society of Oculoplastic Surgery. He remains an active member of that society as well as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Canadian Ophthalmology Society.
